Charlotte particularly enjoys working with clients who seek acupuncture for fertility support. In this area specifically she has trained with some of the great names in this profession, including Zita West, Debra Betts, Naava Carman and Jani White.
Many research studies suggest that acupuncture may be helpful for various aspects of fertility and conception, and acupuncture has been used in this way for generations. Whilst there is currently a lack of good quality research to definitely prove or disprove its efficacy in these areas, Charlotte firmly believes that the benefits of having acupuncture with a suitably qualified and trained practitioner should not be underestimated.
Many NHS fertility clinics, including our local one at Fertility Fusion in Wrightington near Wigan, now encourage patients to consider having acupuncture during fertility treatment.
There is growing evidence that using appropriate acupuncture treatment may assist with fertility treatment, boosting the chances of a successful pregnancy – from Fertility Fusion Wrightington*

The personal accounts of some of Charlotte’s patients provide an insight into her practice. Louise from the Fylde Coast had been trying to conceive for 3 years when she first came to acupuncture. Here is what she said about her experience with Charlotte:
“Acupuncture kept me calm and relaxed and supported my pregnancy. Your professionalism, support and skill throughout and particularly at implantation stage was key to my success and happy outcome. My journey was a long and challenging one, but I knew I was going to get there when I started treatment with yourself because I had confidence in you. Thanks so much for helping me to become a mother”.
Frequently, Charlotte finds that patients having acupuncture describe feeling more relaxed, more able to cope with stress and more in tune with their own body. These aspects of acupuncture treatment alone, may provide the foundations for improved fertility health.
“Charlotte our baby has arrived safely. We are so grateful to you. You have made our dreams come true…”A, Preston
Charlotte’s acupuncture clinic attracts clients from throughout the North West, and she has several years experience in male and female reproductive health. She has received post-graduate acupuncture training from some of the leading specialists in the field of fertility and brings this expertise to her daily practice.
“…I have no doubt that acupuncture with Charlotte played a key role in supporting the success of our embryo transfer and resulting pregnancy. I would like to thank her from the bottom of my heart for all of her personal support and time spent during these sessions. I have no hesitation in recommending her to all ladies who are going through infertility issues. My only regret is that I didn’t begin acupuncture with Charlotte sooner.” Louise Atkinson (Leyland, Preston)
Charlotte’s treatments work to support both emotional and physical wellbeing and prevent the harmful effects of stress which, research shows, increases the risk of infertility. Her treatments are both holistic and highly personalised.
“I contacted Charlotte following three miscarriages, inconclusive tests and a diagnosis of unexplained infertility. It was the best decision I ever made. Charlotte devised an individual treatment plan for me and I conceived within two to three months. I am now sat cuddling my 3 week old baby girl thanks to Charlotte. I looked forward to each of my acupuncture sessions which were held in a relaxing atmosphere and Charlotte was always professional and compassionate. I could not recommend Charlotte enough.” Kelly, Preston
Charlotte supports individuals and couples throughout their fertility journey.
“I just thought I’d let you know that my baby has arrived. I just wanted to say the biggest thank you for all your help in getting me to this point! The acupuncture did wonders for my anxiety and also in making me feel more prepared for labour, as did talking to you about it all. I hope to see you again in the future for some more – maybe if we decide to have another baby one day. I’d totally recommend you and acupuncture to anyone.” Anna
Clients come to acupuncture with Charlotte when they want to improve their fertility health, reduce their stress levels and gain increased levels of relaxation whilst trying to conceive naturally. Other women and couples come for acupuncture support when preparing for and undergoing fertility interventions such as clomid, IUI and IVF.
“Dear Charlotte, I am so happy to tell you that our ICSI treatment was successful and I am now almost 16 weeks pregnant. We feel very blessed and know how fortunate we have been. Of course I wanted to tell you the news but mainly I just wanted to say thank you. I can’t tell you how much your support and understanding helped me get through a really tough time. You’ve been an acupuncturist and a support network rolled into one and I truly can’t thank you enough for the positive impact you had on my journey and its many ups and downs. Thank you so much again Charlotte. You were a lifeline when I needed it most.” Helen
The number of sessions required varies from patient to patient and is assessed in more detail at the first appointment. As a general guide for clients trying to conceive naturally, Charlotte recommends a course of acupuncture over approximately 3 months.
Fertility experts at our local IVF clinic, Fertility Fusion in Wrightington, recommend starting acupuncture 3-4 months before beginning IVF. However Charlotte also sees clients who find out about acupuncture quite late in process, and it is still possible to offer acupuncture support in these situations too.
Treatment for Women
Acupuncture can be used during each stage of the IVF process, with each phase having a particular focus, from stimulating the blood supply to the uterus, to reducing the release of stress hormones which can have a negative effect on the success of IVF.
Clinical studies have also shown that appropriate acupuncture treatment before and after embryo transfer can increase the chance of embryo implantation and full term pregnancy, whilst also reducing anxiety and stress during the transfer process. Following a positive pregnancy test, Charlotte also offers acupuncture during the first trimester.
When coming for acupuncture you may simply want to relax and combine the treatment with lifestyle advice to optimise your natural fertility.
You may have been trying to conceive for some time. You may have been given the label of unexplained infertility.
Or you may have menstrual irregularities, have high Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) levels or have other conditions such as fibroids or endometriosis.
Each acupuncture session with Charlotte is individual to you and the focus of the treatment will change with each stage of your menstrual cycle.
During a fertility intervention such as IVF, Charlotte integrates the acupuncture treatments with each stage of your Western Medicine protocol. Each treatment will be highly personalised and in addition to supporting your fertility health will incorporate acupuncture points aimed at promoting your sense of wellbeing and aiding relaxation.
However fertility health in men is equally important at anytime but particularly where there is unexplained fertility or where your partner is undergoing a fertility intervention such as IVF. Fertility health in men is often something that can be overlooked.
